The 2018 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru has a much more open-knit, expressive bouquet than its peers with vivacious red berry fruit, forest floor and pressed rose petal scents. Quite understated at first, this seems to grow in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannins. Fleshy, but with backbone behind it, gentle grip, a caressing and quite persistent finish. Excellent - one of this year's more sensual Cortons. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The 2018 Corton Le Rognet Cuvée Camille Grand Cru, named after Mallard’s son born that year, contains 72% whole cluster. It has a vivacious, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, raspberry preserve and light kirsch aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. A little tight on the finish but there is impressive precision and mineralité here. Excellent.
