Only one Châteauneuf-du-Pape was produced by the Boiron family in this difficult vintage, so the 2008 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Tradition includes the fruit that normally would have gone into the top cuvées. Although I wouldn't suggest holding it much/any longer, it's still a tasty drop, with meaty and savory notes, silky cherry fruit and a supple, easy-drinking nature. It surprised me with how well it has held up.

Bright ruby. Ripe aromas of smoky dark fruits and garrigue Open-knit and a bit jammy, with broad flavors of plum and blackberry. Shows good depth for the vintage and has no rough edges. This spicy, fruit-driven wine finishes with good clarity and lingering sweetness, repeating the herbal note.
From bottle, the 2008 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape exhibits good aromatics of licorice-infused black cherries, loads of spice, earth and flowers. The wine is fresh and lithe, carrying a medium bodied, balanced palate with crisp acidity, sweet fruit, and a chewy, savory finish with good length. Drink this very good Châteauneuf, with food, over the next 7 to 10 years. Tasted twice.
Mid ruby. Full, strawberry fruit on the nose. Good palate attack. Sweet and then some very fine tannins and a hint of gaminess. Does taste like a blend rather than too simple. A fair amount of alcohol on the finish though. (JR)
