A serious, concentrated Saint-Emilion from vines between Pavie and Canon-La-Gaffelière on sandy soils, the 2023 Clos Badon Thunevin is based on 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc and was aged 21 months in 100% new French oak. Ripe currants, darker cherries, graphite, smoky tobacco, and chalky minerality all emerge from this beauty, and it's medium-bodied, with a solid, lively spine of acidity, polished tannins, and a great finish. I love this wine. It's drinking nicely today yet is going to have 15-20 years of overall prime drinking. There are roughly 2,667 cases produced. Drink 2026-2043.

The 2023 Clos Badon-Thunevin is plush, succulent and seductive, all qualities that make it a fine choice for near-and medium-term drinking. A blast of dark cherry, chocolate, new leather, incense and tobacco makes a strong first impression. Plush contours wrap it all together in style.

The 2023 Clos Badon-Thunevin is aged entirely in new oak. It has a slightly generic bouquet because of that, and it masks the 45% Cabernet Franc that I would like to have seen. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, dark chocolate-smeared red fruit, very oaky and quite Californian on the finish. Not made for this palate.
