Tasting notes
The Giovanni Rosso 2020 Barolo Cerretta, with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, is quite generous and ripe, owing to sunny vintage conditions. It opens to a dark ruby color and pretty concentration with perfumes that are fine and elegant; they recall lavender, wild berry, plum and rusty nail. The Cerretta vineyard delivers a lingering sense of sweetness, and that becomes a signature for this wine. These results are immediate and up front.

Serralunga d’Alba. Palish ruby. Spice, dark earth and minerally, salty notes over deep raspberry fruit. Impressive depth on the palate while the fruit is still a little backward. Very long with lots of supple acidity and a long grip of super-fine grainy tannins. (WS)
Beautifully pale jewel-ruby colour, translucent and vibrant, subdued on the nose at first, with waves of soft raspberry, gentle tobacco, fresh acidities, this is a classic Cerretta, some austerity and chalky flinty tannins, orange peel, sage, freshly cut herbs, subtle and delicious. Lovely balance. 365m altitude, 25 and 50hl oak barrels for ageing.
Recently bottled, the 2020 Barolo Cerretta is a jeweled ruby color and offers fresh notes of raspberry coulis, violets, and crushed rosemary. Medium-bodied, it’s round and approachable, with plush tannins and a weightless ripe feel. It’s going to need some time in bottle, but it should be ready to drink rather soon upon release. Drink 2025-2037.
