Smoky black cherries, burning embers, baking spices, iron, and violet aromatics emerge from the 2023 Mazerat, a deeper-hued effort based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that saw malolactic fermentation in barrel and was aged 20 months in 80% new French oak. It's medium to full-bodied, with a concentrated, focused mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. The balance, purity, and overall class here are terrific, and this gorgeous Saint-Emilion will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades. There are roughly 1,250 cases produced. Drink 2028-2045.

The 2023 Mazerat, which comes from around two hectares of vine, has a well-defined bouquet with cassis and kirsch, hints of dark chocolate coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, slightly powdery in texture, with a dose of black pepper on the cohesive and quite nuanced finish. There is something "cooler" about this Mazerat compared to previous vintages, and it should age well in bottle.

A structured, mouth-filling red with velvety, well-integrated tannins. Medium-bodied, taut and meaty on the palate, this has impressive concentration and length. Chewy but polished throughout. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc.
