Tasting notes
Rocking stuff with its ripe currants, black cherries, smoke, tobacco, leather, and graphite as well as some chocolaty oak all emerging from the glass, the 2023 Pagodes De Cos is medium to full-bodied and has a ripe, layered, yet balanced mouthfeel, solid focus and precision, and ripe tannins. It's a beautiful Pagodes to drink over the coming 20 years or more. Drink 2026-2045.

Bold and sumptuous, the 2023 Les Pagodes de Cos is a very sexy wine. Racy contours wrap around a core of dark red/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, mocha, pomegranate and cloves. This rich, heady Saint-Estèphe should start drinking well in another year or two. In 2023, Pagodes is quite the extrovert.
The 2023 Les Pagodes de Cos is a step up from the G d'Estournel this year, with more expressive and slightly riper blackberry and blueberry scents laced with light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine but quite firm tannins that frame the pure black fruit laced with subtle briny notes. Fine length, quite strict and linear in style, I would afford this three to four years in bottle.
Spicy and complex. Aromas of spices, nutmeg, red currants and blackberries. Medium-bodied with round and polished tannins and a savory finish. The second wine of Cos d’Estournel. Needs two or three years to come around. Drink after 2027.
About the producer

Louis Gaspard d’Estournel inherited Cos and Pomys in 1791, founding Cos d’Estournel in 1811, investing significantly in the property and expanding the estate from 14 to 45 hectares. The estate rapidly rose to prominence and the wines were exported around the world.
