Tasting notes
Vinfolio, Apr 2024

The nose bursts with aromatics of white peach and citrus. The palate is tightly packed with green apple and candied fruit, supported by a backbone of mineral salinity that drives through to the finish. More than anything, it’s the purity of fruit here that really stands out. Aged in 7% new oak, with 12.85% alcohol and 3.14pH. Blend: 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon

A brilliant white from this team, the 2023 Château Cos D'Estournel Blanc is based on 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon and reveals a touch more inward, mineral-laced character than the Pagodes Blanc. Ripe citrus, orange pith, white flowers, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, fresh, focused, and vibrant on the palate, with bright, juicy acidity, remarkable purity, and a great finish. It's another sensational white from this estate that will keep for a solid two decades. Drink 2026-2045.

The 2023 Cos d'Estournel Blanc has really come along since I tasted it from barrel. Apricot, chamomile, white flowers, tangerine peel, lemon confit and marzipan are all dialed up. Soft, generous contours wrap it all together in style. This is impeccably done.

The 2023 Cos d'Estournel Blanc, bottled in September 2024, has quite a neutral nose at the moment, perhaps less expressive than when I tasted it from barrel, gooseberry mixed with Anjou pear, light gravelly scents. A second bottle, at the château, seemed a little more fruit-driven and expressive. The palate is fresh and well balanced, lime and light citrus peel, segueing into a subtle tropical-tinged finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Fine.
