Tasting notes
A beautiful, classic Haut-Médoc, the 2023 Château Cantemerle offers lots of currants, fresh black cherries, leather, and graphite, with more subtle floral nuances with air. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has fine-grained tannins, a solid sense of freshness, and outstanding length. It's undeniably delicious today yet will have two decades of prime drinking. Drink 2026-2046.

The 2023 Cantemerle has a straightforward bouquet with blackberry and tobacco scents, moderate complexity, quite old school in style. The palate is medium-bodied with black fruit, still with that nagging vegetal note on the finish. Will that be subsumed or turn into another flavor? I have to be prudent with my score.
Carefully placed fruits set against the firm tannic frame, slow progression through the palate, crushed rose petals, fragrant sandalwood and incense smoke, raspberry, cocoa bean, liquorice. Four week harvest, with rain in between the sunshine, had to make a lot of smart decisions and they have done an excellent job here. 35% new oak for ageing, Eric Boissenot consultant, an upscore from En Primeur.
Red and black fruits, iron, leafy herbs, and a kiss of chocolate all emerge from the 2023 Château Cantemerle, a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, balanced 2023 offering ripe tannins, integrated oak, and just a complex, attractive, satisfying style.
