Based on 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot from gravel and clay soils (there's some underlying limestone) aged 12-14 months in French oak barrels, the 2023 Château Cantelys offers ripe black fruits, iron, subtle marine nuances, and leafy herb and tobacco notes on the nose. It's medium-bodied on the palate, with a round, supple, nicely textured mouthfeel. Drink this delicious, already approachable Pessac-Léognan over the coming decade or more. Drink 2026-2036.

The 2023 Cantelys is rich and sumptuous in the glass. Dark red fruit, chocolate, dried herbs and licorice fill out the layers. The blend is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the riper side of the vintage very much on display. This racy Pessac-Léognan offers quite a bit of immediacy. Hints of leather, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco linger.
The 2023 Cantelys has an impressive bouquet with blackberry, briar and cedar scents, fine definition and well-integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of dark chocolate on the entry, gentle grip with a peppery finish that is just softer than necessary. Otherwise, a fine Pessac-Léognan.
Ample cassis, smoked earth, sappy herbs, and a kiss of tobacco all emerge from the 2023 Château Cantelys, a plush, round, medium to full-bodied effort with loads of fruit and texture while staying nicely balanced and elegant.
