Score 89/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2008

A bottle of the 1978 Borgogno Barolo (library release) was a late substitute for a corked bottle from Brovia. To be honest, I am not especially fond of these re-releases from Borgogno as they typically deliver very little vintage quality, but this was a perfectly decent bottle that was among the finest examples I have had.

Borgogno
Giacomo Borgogno & Figli

One of Piedmont’s oldest estates, Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, often known as just “Borgogno”, is archly traditional. Favouring long macerations and extended ageing in Slavonian cask, it is best known for its impressive Barolos, especially the prized late releases from its extensive library stock.
