Released six years after the harvest, the 2013 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore is theoretically considered a new wine, although in practice this expression of Nebbiolo is part of the Sibi Paucis series of late releases from this estate. It is a beautiful expression that you appreciate more in the mouth than you do on the nose. Silky and elegant, the tannins have been softly integrated, and the overall effect is beautifully tempered and graceful. Its very apparent mineral sensations and budding tertiary complexity make it an important wine even when stacked against the other lofty achievements of Luciano Sandrone.

The tile and dried flowers highlight the dark fruit nicely. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a savory finish. Some walnut and tea undertones. Drink now.

The 2013 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore is lifted, precise and beautifully delineated, all signatures of the year. Crushed flowers, sweet red berries, mint and rose petals are some of the many scents that lift from the glass. Weightless and gracious, the 2013 impresses with its exceptional balance and overall harmony. It will be interesting to see if the 2013 gains volume with time in glass.

Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Deep, almost rich nose of wild strawberry with a hint of oak. Lovely suppleness and freshness with a fine tannic structure. Delicious and refreshing. (WS)
