The 2014 Quintus is very youthful on the nose, with vibrant, almost Médoc-like scents of brambly red berry fruit, cedar, smoke and just a touch of pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, fine tannins, again, very Left Bank in style with a gentle grip on the finish. This could actually benefit from a few more months in bottle. It's quite bold in style, but it pulls it off (just). Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Bricky rim. Very unusual nose with a suggestion of roses and shoe polish. Lean, high acid and tannins drying on the finish. (JH)

Tasted blind. Garnet with a pale rim. Very fresh nose with some Cabernet evident. Sleek and polished with a lightly saline hint. A complete, confident wine. Long and savoury with a dry finish and real density of fruit with quite a bit of tannin for the long term. Cool and dry on the end. Sappy and energetic. Ch Figeac? (JR)

Striking nose of old balsamic vinegar, bark and wet earth, but there’s also plenty of blackberry fruit. Ripe, ample and well-structured, this is an impressive and delicious St.-Emilion that’s already in its best drinking phase. Just a hint of fig at the very long, velvety finish. Drink or hold. Château Quintus vertical tasting. SP.
