Tasting notes
Mid ruby with watery orange rim. Lifted spicy, peppery nose. Lots of powerful grainy tannins and fine succulent cherry fruit. You could approach this now, although it would probably be infanticide. Supple yet elegant. (WS)

The 2012 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco opens with beguiling aromatics, but is much less expressive on the palate, where biting tannins clamp down on the fruit. Medium in body and classically austere, the 2012 is a wine for readers who can be patient. Of the three 2012s, the Lazzairasco is the wine that has suffered most from its recent bottling.
Serralunga d’Alba. Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Full strawberry-fruit nose that is a little jammy and a tiny bit medicinal. Medicinal strawberry fruit on the palate too and with drying tannins. Unsettled and a little bitter. (WS)
