Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Black raspberry, blackberry, red licorice, game and flinty minerality on the multifaceted nose. Plush and fine-grained but with excellent firming minerality and medicinal reserve. Turns much tighter and tauter on the back end, finishing with saline minerality, firm tannins and terrific lift. This fruit was picked with 12% natural alcohol and chaptalized to 12. 6%. Very refined wine without any hardness.

The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru amounts to just three barrels this year, one of them new, the other two from 2012. It has a "classic" quite refined bouquet with attractive floral scents coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, brambly black and red fruit, nicely judged acidity with a clean and precise finish. Not long term, but nicely crafted.
