Tasting notes
I usually get spoiled tasting at Macle's cellars, and Laurent uncorks older vintages to make a comparison with the current releases. Next to the 2016 we also tasted a bottle of the superb and very complete 2015 Château Chalon. 2015 was a warm and ripe year that delivered powerful wines, complete, with ripeness, freshness and balance. At the time, he compared it with 2005 and 2022, but I think it could be more like 2019... The grapes were picked the 15th of September, almost one month earlier than in 2013. It shows round and gentle but with concentration, energy and power. Only 4,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022.

The 2015 Château-Chalon wins me over with its mind-boggling finesse and complexity. Classic aromas of bread dough and walnuts are prominent, but they are accompanied by a wide array of dried flowers, mountain herbs, hay and a hint of cumin spice. Saffron also makes an appearance. The 2015 reflects the charm and generosity of the warm and sunny vintage while flawlessly maintaining balance and freshness through steely acidity. The long-lasting finish is exceptional, with new flavors emerging long after the wine has left the palate. Production totaled approximately 4,000 bottles.
