Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a clean, subtle and well-defined bouquet with attractive wild strawberry, Morello and redcurrant scents. The oak here is much better integrated compared to the Clos de Vougeot from Hudelot-Noëllat. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. I appreciate the purity here, the balance and poise, the manner in which it gently fans out on the finish. Excellent—this is another impressive showing from Bouchard Père et Fils. Tasted September 2017.

Good dark red, not hugely saturated. Cool, medicinal scents of black cherry, spices and herbs. Juicy, pure and youthfully imploded, conveying excellent energy to its black fruit and licorice flavors. Not a fleshy wine but still easier to taste today than the 2015. Crisp acidity and savory minerality contribute to its penetrating quality, but there's nothing hard about this wine. Finishes with firm, ripe tannins and excellent length.

(Bouchard vinifies its plots from the top and bottom of the clos together; 60% vendange entier ): Healthy red-ruby. Dark cherry, menthol, licorice and wild herbs on the demonstrative nose. Sweet and fairly plump but backward, showing a slight medicinal reserve and an herbal element to its black cherry and licorice flavors. This saline, fat wine is deceptively approachable today, finishing with ripe tannins, but its slow-building length and medicinal and menthol qualities suggest that it will need time in bottle--probably longer than the Echézeaux. Incidentally, Bouchard will pull up and replant its lower parcel of Clos Vougeot this year.
