Tasting notes
Lifted with blood orange citrus, the 2019 Barolo Del Comune Di Monforte D'Alba is spiced with clove, menthol, and cherry. It is medium to full bodied, with fine tannins, a fresh spine of acidity, and raspberry, dusty earth, and fresh peach. I love the balance of its structure and its refined texture. This is an outstanding effort to drink 2024-2044.

The 2019 Barolo del Commune di Monforte d’Alba is a very pretty wine in this range from Diego Conterno. In 2019, the Comune bottling is a bit more open than it often is, which means it will drink well with minimal cellaring. Dried cherry fruit, cedar, pipe tobacco, menthol and crushed flowers all grace this mid-weight, open-knit Barolo. There's plenty of Monforte depth, but also a good deal of softness. A whole range of floral and savory top notes extend the finish.
The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba is once again a total delight. Crushed flowers, rose petal, mint, kirsch, candied red cherry, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite, nuanced Barolo from Stefano Conterno. Some of the other wines in the range might be more "important," but I would be very happy to own and drink this.
