Score 89-91/100 · Drink 2021-2032, Neal Martin, Jan 2019
The 2017 Volnay Les Brouillards was the first red picked this year on 2 September. It has an attractive bouquet with raspberry and cranberry fruit neatly folded into the 30% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite dense and grippy on the entry with a bold, sinewy finish that is actually more like a Pommard. It might just miss some finesse but there is impressive length in situ.
