This domaine bottling is packed full of sweet red-berried fruit – the palate long, beautifully balanced and impressive. The tannins are a little more rustic at this point, countered by more refined and delicate aromatics, although this is clearly not yet showing its full potential.

The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot) is quite gourmand, bursting with aromas of smoky dark berries, cherries and spice box, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping palate that's rich and textural, framed by powdery structuring tannins.

The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru takes time to settle in the glass. The exuberant bouquet has brambly red berry fruit, briar and a tang of shucked oyster shells, gaining intensity in the glass, though it doesn't quite match the precision of the Clos-de-Bèze. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite muscular in style as it approaches its bold finish. Very good length and impressive power, yet my affection lies with the Clos-de-Bèze this year.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
