Tasting notes
Vinfolio, Sep 2023

This comes from a plot just above Chapelle-Chambertin, with some very old vines. The nose opens with herbal tones, but it’s the sheer density of fruit here that impresses – managing to be both intense yet totally transparent. There’s a juicy sweetness to the red berries and a bite of freshness, which at once feels immediate and yet the wine is holding back so much, with a tight, firm finish.

The 2022 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with subtle hints of peony, mint, exotic spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a creamy core of fruit, lively acids and sweet, melting tannins, this sumptuous, enveloping wine is one of the high points of the range.

Cask sample. Transparent crimson-ruby. Substantial and muscular. Quite a contrast to the sweetness of the Chapelle-Chambertin. Savoury and long and complex. Solid and promising rather than ethereal but true to its origins. Lots to chew on! But no shortage of fruit. Well done and very different from the Chapelle. Long and lots of delivery of subtle flavours on the very end. (JR)
