Tasting notes
Vinfolio, Nov 2023

From a mere 0.2 hectares of vines, Raphet’s Chambertin Clos de Bèze provides a grand finale to our tasting. It’s sweet and lush, with rich – almost exotic – fruit, generous and ripe. There’s a chalky perfume here, along with floral aromas. Intense yet balanced, the ripe fruit interplays with taut acidity, enveloped by tannin, creating a supple feel and long finish.

An overtly spicy nose speaks of anise, clove, exotic tea, wild dark berries and a floral top note. The rich and reasonably concentrated middleweight plus flavors deliver good depth and length on the somewhat curious finish that is at once youthfully austere and, like the Millandes, slightly sweet. I suspect that the sweetness is linked to the wood treatment and will slowly dissipate and my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt.
