Tasting notes
The medium to full-bodied 1998 Barolo Monfalletto exhibits scents of earth, leather, cherries, and licorice in a nicely-textured, expansive style. With elegance as well as harmony, it can be drunk now and over the next 12-15 years. Importers: Empson USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900; Verdoni Imports, Hawthorne, NJ; tel. Bright, deep red. Expressive aromas of blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate, menthol, licorice, pepper and fresh herbs. Firm, cool and vinous, with rather austere suggestions of licorice, pepper and mint. Conveys an impression of thick skins. Firmly tannic and a bit tough today.
