The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie slowly evolves in the glass, at first coy, showing just glimpses of dusty rose and spice. With coaxing, this comes to life, displaying depths of crushed black cherry and clove, accented by hints of cedar and sweet violet florals. This is a model of elegance, with a pretty inner sweetness and polished, silky waves of ripe wild berry fruit offset by a tinge of sour orange. The 2015 tapers off with dramatic length and surprisingly fresh, as rosy tones resonate over a bitter twang of spice and hints of tangerine. The 2015 Case Vecie is simply stunning, possessing the depth and complexity of Amarone but a refinement that establishes it firmly as a dry wine.

A blend of 39% Corvina, 30% Corvinone and 31% Rondinella, the Brigaldara 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie shows a raw and edgy approach to Amarone with ripe fruit flavors on the one hand and brambly or tart notes on the other. This wine delivers hot-vintage ripeness next to angular tones of balsam herb and wet earth. This was a release of about 15,000 bottles, sporting 16.5% alcohol. The Case Vecie sees two years in barrique and two years in large oak casks before its commercial release.

Single vineyard at 450 metres, surrounded by forest. 55% Corvina, 25% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, Molinara, Dindarella. Wow, beautiful blackcurrant fruit with loads of volatile acidity in the mix giving lift and headiness. Super-fine tannins, perfectly intertwined acid, dark chocolate and a touch of sour plum. Powerful without heat – so intense and persistent. (RH)

Currants and dates on the nose, as well as a balsamic, herbal note. Medium-to full-bodied with intense fruit and still lightly firm, fruit and spice-coated tannins. Long, focused finish. Best in 2023 and onwards.
