The 2013 Barolo Prapò shows some game aromas of cured meat or tanned leather. They are faint but may increase with time as the wine ages and takes on more oxidative tertiary flavors. At this young stage, the wine is held upright by the pretty fruit nuances of plum and dark cherry that give the bouquet a rounder and more accessible approach. Only 6,500 bottles were made.

Germano's 2013 Barolo Prapò is an ample, broad-shouldered Barolo with plenty of Serralunga power and grip. Sweet red cherry, plum, menthol and licorice flesh out in the glass. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2013 has a good bit of aromatic lift that adds brightness. The 2013 spent around 45 days on the skins and was aged in medium-sized casks. It should be approachable with just a few years in bottle.

Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, licorice and pomegranate all race out of the glass in the 2013 Barolo Prapò. A wine of impact and fruit intensity, the 2013 is remarkably accessible for a young Serralunga Barolo. The 2013 needs more time to soften, but it is quite tasty, even today. It is another impressive wine from Sergio Germano.

Serralunga d'Alba. 40 days on the skins. Lustrous mid ruby. Focused, fine red fruit nose with the merest suggestion of oak. Hints of marzipan that I associate with Serralunga. Lots of depth. Maraschino cherry fruit. Intense red fruit on the palate and with a muscular firm structure following the fruit all the way. Vivid acidity turning up on the finish. Really youthful and fine and firm at the same time. Mouth-filling, never-ending tannins. For the long haul. (WS)
