Tasting notes
Barolo. Deep, youthful ruby. Classic tea leaf and savoury, spicy cherry nose. Classy palate of red fruit with great balance and melting tannin. Terrific wine. (WS)

The 2008 Barolo Vigna Paiagallo fleshes out beautifully in the glass with expressive dark red fruit, flowers, mint and licorice. There is lovely richness and inner perfume throughout. Hints of menthol and tar add complexity on the sleek, elegant finish. With 2008 Mirafiore has gone back to using the vineyard name (Paiagallo) for this wine, rather than La Villa, which was a proprietary name that did not refer to the vineyard itself. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. I continue to be impressed with the wines Danilo Drocco is making at Mirafiore. Over the last few years macerations have gotten longer and the use of cooperage has become more refined. Importer: Domaine Select, New York, NY; tel. (212) 279-0799
