Full screwcapped bottle 1,276 g (much lighter than his 2022s). 'Biodynamically grown and hand crafted' according to the back label, so certified, according to the Grosset website, which also describes the vineyard as 'a rare combination of Riesling clones planted entirely on red loam-over-limestone, with slate at its base'. More open on the nose than the 2022, funnily enough. Broad and rich in terms of fruit although obviously bone dry on the (long) finish. Intense lime flavour. Great nervy balance. Pure but complex Riesling flavours. Still slightly chewy on the end but already approachable and pretty gorgeous. (JR)

Plenty of fresh fruit aromas (peach/apple). Quite perfumed with lots of mouth-watering acidity. Surprisingly creamy. It is very long with a delicious lime-juice note on the finish. Still young. (FG)

The 2023 Springvale Riesling is exotic, fleshy and sumptuous in the mouth. Steely minerality flows alongside saffron, curry leaves, white pear, spring flowers and crushed rocks. It's a really, really pretty, wine. A gorgeous thing and a total pleasure. I like it—is that obvious? 12.9% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Made from a six-hectare block of Riesling in Watervale, planted in 2000 on ‘thin topsoil made up of red loam over limestone, and, atypical for this subregion, slate bedrock’. A riot of fresh fruit aromas – juicy green apples, snappy green grapes, some heady quince – lead onto Springvale’s usual eager-to-please lime-juicy richness, finishing with mouth-watering acidity – perhaps tighter and more pronounced than in previous, warmer vintages, but in lovely balance with the rest of the wine.
