Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard captures a striking expression of this historic Oakville site. Unctuous, rich and enveloping, the 2017 has so much to offer. Inky dark fruit, spice, menthol, licorice and leather all flesh out in the glass with great balance. The 2017 is terrific, and also one of the more immediate and easy-to-drink wines in this range. The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is closed, slowly opening to earthy, broody black fruit preserves with slight notions of herbs and licorice. This is a full-bodied, rich, ambitious wine with tightly wound layers and a mineral finish. (LPB) 95+
A beautiful and precise red with blackcurrant and dark-chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium body, integrated tannins and a fresh and focused finish. Shows precision and tension.
From obviously purchased grapes, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon looks like dark pen ink, has that inimitable and compelling aromatic expression that the To Kalon Vineyard seems to offer up – graphite, blueberry, blackberry, cassis, fruitcake and spice. With incredibly rich blue fruits, black fruits, a full body, opulent, voluptuously textured and sensational, the wine still tastes like a barrel sample, but even at that, I found it nearly impossible to spit out. This is a killer effort, a magnificent wine with a potential three-digit score with a few more years of bottle age.
