There’s roughly 4,000 bottles of the 2012 Côte Rôtie Rose Pourpre and it’s a rock-star effort that exhibits plenty of sweet oak in its darker fruits, barbecue smoke, licorice and mineral-driven bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, with a balanced, ripe, layered, yet decidedly fresh style, give this puppy another 2-3 years in the cellar and drink bottles through 2027.

100% Syrah on schist. Very bright crimson. Intense and very ripe nose but with the peppery overlay of northern Rhône Syrah. Muscular finish. Long with liquorice notes and some leather. No doubt that this is a special cuvée. Real intensity but very clean and fresh too. (JR)
