Tasting notes
It's been interesting to draw comparisons between the current 2017 Barolo releases and those 2015 Riservas hitting the market now. Both are born in warm vintages, and there are a few interesting parallels to be drawn. Francesco Rinaldi & Figli gives us a window onto both vintages. The 2015 Barolo Riserva Cannubi is a fleshed-out and concentrated expression with black and purple fruits (much like the 2017). Texture plays an important role in the power and momentum of the wine. This Riserva also reveals delicate touches of smoke, ash and licorice that develop with age.

The 2015 Barolo Cannubi Riserva is a total stunner. In fact, it is one of the very best Barolos I have ever tasted from the Rinaldi family. Dark yet translucent, with remarkable depth, the Riserva is a total thrill from the very first taste. Lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and mocha give the Cannubi its distinctly dark, sepia-toned personality. The 2015 needs time, but it is compelling, to say the least. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.
The 2015 Barolo Riserva Cannubi is dense and expressive, with all of the richness of the year front and center. Sweet red cherry, mint, pine, anise, dried flowers and spice all develop in this open-knit, supple Barolo. Time in the glass brings out the wine's textural depth and resonance. The Riserva emerges from the central part of the Rinaldi family's holdings in Cannubi Boschis.
