Tasting notes
Apricot, peach, orange peel and significant weight on the palate giving this wonderful chewiness. There's a little heat from the alcohol, and perhaps that's complemented by intrinsic spiciness as well. Like the best Condrieu, this is a perhaps unexpected candidate for ageing up to ten years from vintage, and maybe beyond. (RH)

Clear, fresh and with cool, spicy aromatics on the nose, the 2021 Ried Achleiten Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is juicy and elegant on the palate with hints of iodine. With a compact and persistent structure and fine, crystalline acidity, this is an intensely juicy and aromatic Veltliner with a salty, spicy, extremely stimulating finish. Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2022.
Weissenkirchen. Herbal, grassy and nearly smoky aromas marked with ripe quince spice. Concentrated palate shows good energy, supple texture and a juicy, zesty finish. Rich in texture while keeping the weight in check. (PS)
Intense aroma of fresh green beans and garden peas with notes of white and green pepper. Powerful and muscular, with a firm structure and crisp acidity for a gruner veltliner of this level. Stony, quite austere finish. Drink or hold.
