Cask sample. Deep brooding nose, leather game and biltong spice. Fresh and vibrant and with lots of rounded tannins. There is a peppery note to the fruit, which is gently hiding in the background. I suspect that this peppery character will emerge from the oak in the next year or so , adding complexity. (AC)

The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru is another cuvée that includes 100% whole bunch this year. It has a well-defined bouquet, the stemmy element not quite as pronounced as on the Gevrey Champonnet and more integrated with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, and generous peppery black fruit laced with cedar and white pepper. The grippy finish needs time to abrade its edges. A traditionally cut Morey-Saint-Denis that needs to be consumed with food. Good potential here.
70-year-old vines. 100% whole bunches. 30% new oak. Some colour depth. Coriander seed and vanilla oak overtones, backed-up by depth of stony, black-cherry fruit. Firmly structured, though the tannins are quite fine. Backward and reticent. Does this have the depth for the structure? Time will tell. (TJ)

Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini was established in 2012 when Florence Heresztyn took over her family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin with her husband Simon Mazzini (who originally comes from Champagne).
