Tasting notes
This Merlot has a darkly aged color, with some spicy and evolved aromas. Honestly, the 2003 Rosso Rujno was a tough taste after that long battery of Gravner's whites, because this is definitely a more fragile and delicate wine next to those superstars. It came across as flat by comparison. After some 15 years in the bottle, the wine has definitely dried out a bit, but it retains some faint traces of leather and licorice that kept it elegant. It's not a bad vintage for this expression, but frankly this estate's whites just cast a long shadow over everything else.

About the producer

Along with the likes of Radikon, Joško Gravner – whose vines straddle the Italian-Slovenian border – is a leading light of the natural-wine movement. His skin-contact Ribolla Gialla has inspired many imitators, while the rare Pignolo is prized by those in the know.
