The 2018 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru offers scents of granite and wet slate on the nose with hints of quince. Very terroir expressive. The palate is gorgeous, so tensile and extremely poised, seductive touches of apricot jam and repeating quince towards the complex finish. What a fabulous Saint-Aubin.
The 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Rouge is showing beautifully, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, wild berries, bergamot and rose petals. On the plate, it's medium to full-bodied, precise and mineral, with excellent concentration and a finer-boned profile than Lamy's heartier reds from Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet.
The 2018 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru includes some declassified Haut Densité fruit (20% of the total production) from vines too young to enter that blend. This has a lovely bouquet of white flower aromas and citrus fruit mixed with hints of quince and orange blossom. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, very taut and precise. Brisk Nashi pear and black currant leaf surface toward the finish. Excellent.
