Young vine bottling so possibly with more freshness than the grand vin. Certainly very appealing on the nose and only slightly lacking punch and follow through. But lots of appeal. (JR)

The Merlot/Sangiovese 2015 Lucente sports a deep purple/ruby color as well as terrific notes of blackberry and plum fruits supported by plenty of smoked earth, toasty oak, and licorice. The second wine of the estate from younger vines and brought up in new and used barrels, it’s a medium-bodied, supple, elegant red that has some chalky minerality, light tannin, and a great finish.
