Score 92/100 · Drink 2014, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2013

An exotic, rich Chassagne, 2011 Clos St. Jean is laced with apricot, peach, honey, almonds and hazelnuts. The style here is decidedly vinous, an intense wine with considerable textural volume and breadth. The Clos St. Jean emerges from a parcel replanted in 2004, so there will be a lot to look forward to as the vines age.

Young vines – planted in 2004. Mixed red and white soils. To be bottled in March. Dry and broad with floral aromas coming up on the finish. Less obvious acidity than the Pulignys. Until the end… Still youthful. (JR)

(from a 2004 planting): Pale yellow. Aromatic nose offers spiced pear and menthol. Juicy but a bit wishy-washy in the mouth, with modest sweetness and flesh to its flavors of pineapple, menthol and licorice. A little dry on the end. I wanted more stuffing.
