Ripe strawberries and plums with cedar and citrus undertones. Some candied fruit and hints of mushrooms, too. It’s full-bodied, tight and tannic with layers of medium-chewy tannins and a savory finish. Solid wine with richness. Drink after 2023, to let it soften and integrate better.

After all these releases from 2017, it's nice to travel a few more years back in time. The Giacomo Fenocchio 2015 Barolo Riserva Bussia 90 dì reveals a bright ruby color with good vitality and energy. Aromas of dried cherry, cassis and sweet plum lift from the bouquet, towing along delicate tones of crushed stone and dried licorice root. It feels like the wine could give more of itself, but like so many, it's probably just a question of giving it more time to age. This was a release of approximately 4,000 bottles.

The 2015 Barolo Riserva Bussia 90 Dì is a big step up from previous editions. I am still not completely sold on this bottling, but the 2015 has plenty of depth, with incisive tannins to match, and better overall definition than has sometimes been the case. Bright red berry fruit, orange zest, white pepper, mint and dried flowers linger. (AG) 93+
