Tasting notes
French sugar-coated almond candies (dragees), quartz, and stone-like aromas are found in the nose of the 2001 Riesling Schlossberg Cuvee Ste.-Catherine. Armed with inspiring breadth, concentration, and richness, it reveals loads of stone, mineral, and pear flavors in its deep character. Rich yet highly focused and pure, this medium-bodied, satin-textured wine also sports an exceptionally long and detailed finish. Projected maturity: 2006-2016. Exotic aromas of orange, apricot, smoke and stone, with hints of dried fruits. Sweeter and more glyceral than the foregoing samples, but this has essentially the same residual sugar. The strong wet stone flavor gives the wine uncanny energy in the middle palate. A big, powerful, very long and aromatic riesling that splendidly showcases this superb grand cru site.
