Tasting notes
The 2007 Hermitage Les Rocoules Blanc (90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne from a block of 50-60-year old vines) exhibits notes of quince, acacia flowers, marzipan and Wheat Thins. The attractive aromas are followed by medium to full-bodied, heady flavors. Sorrel’s holdings in Larnage in Crozes-Hermitage consist of equal parts Roussanne and Marsanne. In most vintages, Sorrel produces two cuvees of white Hermitage. The top white is Les Rocoules, which emerges from that well-know hillside site on the granite Hill of Hermitage. Importer: J. O. A. Light yellow-gold. Deep, smoky pit fruit aromas give way to spicy lemon and white peach scents with air, along with notes of green almond and spicecake. Round, fleshy nectarine and peach flavors stain the palate and are underscored by lively talc and citrus zest notes, with good mineral snap on the back. The almond quality repeats on the finish, which is broad, sappy and extremely long. Sorrel thinks that this will be a very long-lived wine and suggests leaving it alone until at least 2017.
