Tasting notes
Barolo. Tasted blind. Developed ruby with bricky rim. Fragrant cherry-liqueur nose that is already looking developed. Fragrant and light fruit palate that just manages to keep up on the finish with the long, powdery tannins. Lacks intensity and depth. (WS)

The Francesco Rinaldi & Figli 2017 Barolo Cannubi shows a large span of aromas with dark cherry, plum and cassis. There is a little less definition in this hot-vintage expression (compared to the exacting precision of the 2016 vintage that I remember so fondly). However, the wine sports its broad shoulders with grace and poise. Dark fruit aromas are fleshed out by spice, tar and crushed flowers.
The 2017 Barolo Cannubi is sensual, polished and a real delight to taste. Soft and effusive, with lovely aromatic presence, the Cannubi will drink well with minimal cellaring. Sweet dried cherry, mint, spice, crushed rose petal and sweet pipe tobacco all grace this super-appealing, mid-weight Barolo from the Rinaldi family. The 2017 is a bit light, but it is super delicious today.
