Tasting notes
The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Vigneto Starderi (Magnum) is more forward than the Gallina. Leather, spice, tobacco and dried flowers are signs of a wine that has reached its plateau of maturity. Aggressive contours suggest the fruit is starting to dry out.

Muscular and fully loaded, the 2012 Barbaresco Starderi Vürsù delivers a solid and ample bouquet that is built upon generous fruit, spice, licorice and balsam herb. The wine's brawny personality is different from the Barbaresco Valeirano that is more seductive and feminine in personality. Starderi shows more brawn and feistiness.
The 2012 Barbaresco Vigneto Starderi is the most dense and inward of these wines. Kirsch, menthol, raspberry, orange zest, flowers and white peppers all take shape in the glass, but only with some reluctance. Still, the 2012 looks like a wine that will offer its best drinking over the next handful of years, as it doesn't have the breadth and power of the best Starderis.
