The 2017 Barolo Cannubi is dominated by overripe red cherry fruit, hard candy, leather and sweet spice flavors. The challenges of the warm, dry growing season proved to be especially severe here. This is a rare miss from Chiarlo.

Barolo. Tasted blind. Mid to deep mature-looking ruby with bright orange rim. Firm nose of dried fruit and cherry, but a little less concentrated on the palate with grainy tannins framing the fruit. The plentiful acidity makes the fruit seem a little thin. (WS)
