Tasting notes
As one might reasonably expect, here the nose is spicier still with hits array of anise, clove and exotic tea nuances that add breadth to the finer medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the youthfully austere finale. This is classier though not necessarily longer or more complex.

Mingling aromas of sweet berry fruit and plums with hints of peony, orange and raw cocoa, the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is medium to full-bodied, layered and lively, with a tangier, more mineral profile than the fleshier, richer Champans that preceded it in our tasting. This derives from a parcel planted in 1984.
The 2019 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru comes from 0.14-hectare of vine. It has a well defined and more mineral driven bouquet compared to the Champans, the 50% new oak lending a little sheen. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins and a fine bead of acidity. One of the purest Volnays that I have tasted at the domaine in many many years, this is a small production of two barrels, but try and grab a bottle.
