Tasting notes
An exuberantly spicy and softly floral nose combines notes of red and dark currant with those of plum and a touch of menthol. The rich and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors exhibit more obvious minerality on the unusually powerful finish. This classy and sophisticated effort possesses a gorgeous texture and is a wine that should improve over the next 12 to 15 years.

The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is shaping up beautifully, unfurling in the glass with scents of peonies, sweet berry fruit, blood orange, smoke and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and perfumed, it's velvety and charming, with melting tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is the highest in alcohol of all of Rossignol's 2019s, but it appears to be seamlessly integrated.
The 2019 Volnay Caillerets 1er Cru includes whole clusters for the first time (10%). It has a fresh, well-defined bouquet that I find fresher than the Clos des Angles. The well-balanced palate features fleshy ripe black fruit laced with tobacco and tar. Quite dense on the finish, this will need 3–4 years to reach its drinking window. This actually has the highest level of alcohol at 15.2°.
