The 2014 L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne has a perfumed bouquet with yellow plum, nectarine and orange zest aromas, clean and so precise. The palate is unctuous with a killer line of acidity, tensile and focused with a lemongrass-tinged, powerful finish. Maybe I would like a little more persistence? That’s quibbling though, this is pretty awesome.

One of the undisputed stars of the vintage, the 2014 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is a real stunner. Plush and beautifully textured, with lovely brightness and impeccable overall balance, the 2014 simply has it all. Lemon confit, baked apple tart, brioche and coconut are all pushed forward in this sensual, exquisite Sauternes. The 2014 is deep, but also quite silky and never a wine of excess. All the elements are simply in the right place.

The 2014 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is a bit subdued in this vintage, but its class and pedigree comes through just the same. Brioche, coconut, baked apple tart, vanilla and butter all emerge from the glass, but in the brighter, more floral style that is the key signature of this vintage. The clean, fresh finish is invigorating. There is so much to like here. Both of proprietor Denis Dubourdieu's Sauternes are superb in 2014.

The L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne 2014 has a very intense bouquet of wild honey, acacia and orange blossom that soars from the glass. The palate is unctuous, decadent and powerful – completely living up to its name – with layers of honeyed fruit on the long finish. It is like a super-charged Beerenauslese, somehow retaining immense tension and precision on the finish. For hedonists only. Queue up.
