Tasting notes
Score 91/100 · Drink 2022-2036, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Feb 2022

Ruby colour, still firm and full of life, kicking things off with ecualyptus and tobacco aromatics. This is a little less generous than the 2000. Dominated by undergrowth, soy, tobacco and charcoal notes, with blackberry and cassis fruits, gentle but building in power through the palate. This has a core of saline minerality, at the beginning of its tertiary phase but not yet fully relaxed. 55% new oak, Eric Boissenot consultant, 55hl/h yield.

Dark crimson. Fully mature, expressive nose and palate – rather seductive. Mouthfilling for almost the first time! Yet not too sweet. Well done! (JR)

Ruggedly constructed, with a deep ruby/purple color, this big, rich St.-Julien offers notes of animal fur, black currants, spice box, licorice, and a notion of new oak in the background. Chewy, heady, and muscular, it is a well-made, substantial 2001 to consume between 2007-2015. If more finesse develops, it may merit an outstanding rating.
