Tasting notes
The 2013 Il Caberlot opens to a dark appearance and very little light penetration. Made from the mysterious and elusive Caberlot grape (a special clone of Cabernet), the wine is loaded with ripe fruit nuances of plum, blackberry and cassis. Those aromas delve deeper to include baking spice, bitter chocolate, pipe tobacco and cracked green peppercorn. The bouquet is distinctive and profoundly elegant. This wine offers thick texture in terms of mouthfeel with firm structure and integrated tannins. This vintage saw the production of 2,800 magnums and 110 double magnums. Il Caberlot is only produced in large-format bottles.

The 2013 Il Caberlot (Magnum) is a super-classy vintage of this Tuscan thoroughbred. Bold, pungent and intensely aromatic, the 2013 exudes richness and intensity, but in a gracious, mid-weight style. Black cherry, plum, sage, menthol, licorice and smoke meld into the unctuous, super-refined finish. This is one of the most impressive young Caberlots I have tasted.
