Tasting notes
The 2015 Balifico, the estate's Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is gorgeous. Dark, ample and packed with fruit, the 2015 comes together beautifully in the glass. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and grilled herbs are all pushed forward. Readers will want to age the 2015 for at least a few years, as the tannins are quite imposing. As good as this is, it doesn't quite reach the heights of the estate's Sangioveses.

A blend of 65% Sangiovese and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Balifico is yet another protagonist of a vintage that has been extremely kind to Tuscany's blended red wines. That lasting summer heat and sunshine has shaped a full-bodied red with ripe tones of blackberry, cherry and spice. Those tangy spicy notes, with sweet cinnamon and savory barbecue smoke, give the wine a greater sense of fullness and lasting persistence. The tannins are already soft and ready, giving this wine an immediately accessible personality. Bottle production is 12,000 units strong.
