The 2020 Cornas Reynard is spectacular. Loaded with pristine graphite, cassis pastilles, crushed rocks and black plum notes, it also boasts fleshy layers and stemmy gradations. Framed by polished tannins, the 2020 is an authoritarian, cinemascope-sized Cornas standing alone at the very top of the appellation’s quality hierarchy. Kept in check by stunning freshness, the concentrated 2020 terminates with persistence and style on the layered, savory finish. This is brilliance in the glass.

The 2020 Cornas Reynard will most likely merit a perfect rating in a decade, and it's a legendary Cornas in the making. Saturated purple-hued, with incredible aromatics of cassis, liquid violets, new leather, and bloody, iron, meaty nuances, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building tannins, and flawless overall balance. It has an inward, massive, backward style (it reminds me slightly of the 2010) and tastes like the blood of Cornas. It will need 7-8 years (a decade will be better) to hit the early stages of its prime drinking wine and will absolutely blow you away over the following two decades.
About the producer
Allemand’s wines set the benchmark for Cornas: expressive Syrahs crafted with uncompromising traditional methods and released in tiny quantities. From the 1980s, he revived abandoned vineyards on Cornas’s steep granite slopes, building his domaine without inherited land or financial support.
