Glass-staining ruby. Vibrant red and dark berry, spicecake and potpourri aromas on the intensely perfumed nose. Sappy and broad on the palate, offering appealingly sweet black raspberry, floral pastille and cola flavors buffered by lively acidity and a hint of smoky minerals. Closes smooth, sweet, gently tannic and very long, conveying further suggestions of spicecake and cola.

Possessing a sweeter, more perfumed and prettier bouquet than the des Miaux, the 2013 Hermitage les Dionnières exhibits plenty of crushed violets, sweet black raspberry, cassis and a touch of charcoal in its medium-bodied, elegant, seamless, almost sexy style. It has building tannin and outstanding length, all of which suggest it will evolve for 10-15 years.
Glass-staining ruby. Complex, highly perfumed scents of red and dark berry preserves, potpourri and incense, with a zesty mineral quality adding lift and focus. Concentrated, lively and precise, offering intense black raspberry and violet pastille flavors that pick up spiciness and smokiness with aeration. The mineral element comes back on a youthfully tannic finish that clings with excellent tenacity and focus.
Cask sample. Dark, glossy and leathery with some polish. Medium density but good balance and freshness on the palate. Dry finish. Very correct and old school. Long. (JR)
