Wafting from the glass with lovely aromas of cherries, wild berries, peonies and orange rind, the 2018 Marsannay Clos du Roy is medium to full-bodied, rich and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, succulent acids and good depth at the core. A touch richer and headier than the 2017 rendition, this is a gourmand Marsannay from Audoin.
Mid crimson. A little less fragrant and more spicy than the Longeroies, real purity of dark-red fruit. A touch herbal but perfectly ripe. Firm and compact tannins already lithe and beautifully balanced. Great example of what Marsannay can produce. Moreish and long. GV (JH)
Vanilla and bright berry fruit, with moderate, well-handled tannins that give shape to the palate. Bright and fresh, with decent length. A couple of years for the tannins to become fine will not hurt the appealing fruit. (TJ)
